The Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) Facility is part of the M4EG initiative, launched and funded by the European Union since 2017. The M4EG Facility is run by UNDP, starting from 2021, in close cooperation with the EU, the local authorities, and a range of other partners.
Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) - is a joint EU and UNDP initiative to support mayors and their teams in the Eastern Partnership region. The M4EG initiative offers resources, learning and networking opportunities to explore new growth trajectories to make cities and towns more attractive to people and investment. The M4EG initiative takes a "hyper-local" and integrated approach.
One of the goals implemented by the project is to help local authorities in the refugee crisis. It was decided to provide free Internet access in areas where refugees and local residents live in order to have access to the necessary information about helping refugees.
For this, the procurement, delivery and installation of Wi-Fi hotspots was done, with the development of comprehensive individual landing pages for 14 local authorities.
